    Main objective of the project is to obtain a transparent multi-layer system capable of transmitting light and producing electricity via photovoltaic systems. Main application will be transparent PV cells to be used in active windows.

    Italian SME is developping an innovative transparent PV cells for active windows.

    Main objective of the project is to obtain a transparent multi-layer system capable of transmitting light and producing electricity via photovoltaic systems.

    Polymeric carbon nitride is an organic semiconductor, easy to synthesize, scalable at an industrial level, a low cost material, and could generate a revolution in the optoelectronic sector in the coming years.

    The deposition by CVD (Chimical Vapour Deposition) of polymeric carbon nitride, an organic semiconductor, on glass generates a transparent crystalline film of variable thickness (from nanometer to micrometer) depending on the process conditions.

    This process would allow us to obtain transparent PV cells to be used in windows, active windows, with the additional advantage of protection against UV rays.

    The system consists of a transparent film of polymeric carbon nitride, as an n-type semiconductor, an electric conductor and electron collector deposited as a thin film, possibly transparent and in direct contact with the whole carbon nitride surface, and a transparent p-type either organic or inorganic semiconductor layer. Possible efficiencies are between 10 and 16% depending on the irradiating energy density.
