Manufacturers and subcontractors sought by a German developer of an intelligent sensor solution for inpatient care

REQUEST from Germany, reference: BRDE20181024001, valid from 31-10-2018 untill 09-11-2019

  • Start date:

  • Summary:
An award winning German company with a product that detects objects, people and their activities with the use of machine-learning algorithms looks to partner up with subcontractors or manufacturers of base stations and sensor bands for the system. Partners are wanted worldwide. The innovative, subtle and easy-to-integrate system is used mostly in nursing and retirement homes and its purpose is to alert the caretakers of any imminent threat to the patients.
  • Description:
German company that has developed an infrared sensor system, which analyses defined areas, objects, people and their movements with the help of smart technology and machine-learning algorithms is looking globally for manufacturers of base stations and sensor bands.
Furthermore, engineering companies for hardware development are wanted.

The system is used for inpatient facility care, like nursing or retirement homes. It would automatically alert inpatient or residential health treatment service provider and caretakers if a patient has fallen or gets up in the middle of the night; it can recognize dangerous situations in real-time without the patient having to wear other specially designed devices or make an emergency phone calls.
The sensor system is based on intelligent algorithms, which analyses movements and other available data and thus form a pattern. In case the pattern in movement breaks, the technology reacts independently and automatically alarms the caretaker.

Basically it is a sensor band that can be attached to the lower section of walls in patient's room, close to floor. The bands can also be secured to the existing baseboards or above those as well as integrated into them. The base station, which is connected to a power source, is then set in order to control the sensor tapes. The base station is collecting data and is able to send a signal to an emergency call system and other connected alarms, or to alert the responsible person through a push-notification delivered to smart device. In order to function, the system needs an access to Wi-Fi.
Partner Sought
  • Type of Partnership Considered:
    Manufacturing agreement, Subcontracting
  • Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:

The complete manufacturing of the base station is needed and it roughly includes:
    - manufacturing of the motherboards and
    - assembly of the motherboards - Printed Circuit Board (PCB)

General details for the manufacturing PCB:
    - 6 layers
    - copper thickness top and bottom: 35µm; inner layers 18-35µm
    - dimension ca. 108 x 105 mm, rounded design
    - solder mask at top and bottom
    - minimum trace width 0,1 mm

General detail for the assembly of PCB:
    - ca. 200 SMD pieces (surface-mount device)
    - ca. 10 THT pieces (through-hole technology)

Due to pending patents, other details will be discussed according to the arrangement and signing of a non-disclosure agreement.

Subcontracting: engineering companies for hardware development are wanted, especially those who deal with embedded systems and software development, notably frontend development.

Manufacturing agreement: company searches for producers of the base station casings and bands. The company intends to order large unit sizes - 10.000 to 200.000 meters of bands per year and 1.000 to 20.000 base stations per year.

Future partner will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement. All details will be discussed after the contacts are established.

  • Development stage:
    Already on the market
  • IPR Status:
Patent(s) applied for but not yet granted
  • Market keywords:

  • Technology keywords:
    Applications for Health
  • NACE keywords:
    Manufacture of consumer electronics
Manufacture of medical and dental instruments and supplies
    Other manufacturing n.e.c.
  • Advantages and Innovations:
The technology can notify the caretaker when the patient gets up in the middle of the night and automatically turn on the light in order for patient to orient himself or herself. It provides a real-time supervision and recognizes deviation in patient's routine, like a drop in activity or an increase of time spent in bed.
It is especially suitable for monitoring of patients suffering from dementia, as it can trigger the alarm in case they remove themselves from the premises.

The intelligent sensor stripe has also a smart-home functionality as it can be used in homes to automatically turn on and off the lights or to overview other housing units. Other forms of application are possible, for example the system can be used in various fields of industry in order to turn automatically off the machines.

Privacy is ensured at all times through the use of infrared sensors and the technology can be imperceptibly integrated into environments.
