    A German company with an interdisciplinary team is specialized in technology and software for advanced control and automation for major industries. The company provides turn-key solutions for complex automation task where standard solutions either fail or are simply not available.

    The company has carried out a range of projects targeting different industrial sectors. References include solutions for automation of ship loaders and unloaders as well as autonomous repair of carbon fiber reinforced plastic components.

    The company offers sensor and positioning technology that was developed within a sensor suite for large gantry cranes. This sensor suite allows for accurate control of the load, reducing damage in autonomous, remote-controlled or conventional crane operation. Furthermore, the system provides input about the surroundings, be it the distribution of iron ore in a bulk carrier’s hatch or an accurate mapping of container positions. All this information is delivered in an easy-to-use package integrating the most advanced sensor systems via a dedicated evaluation unit with direct interfaces to all major programmable logic controller (PLC) control systems.

    The entirely new sensor concept combines a newly developed 3D laser scanner, field proven RTK GPS (real time kinematic global positioning system) positioning solutions and leading-edge processing technology. In most installations the same sensor can be used to track the load and scan the entire crane environment.

    Whereas the 3D scanner is the “eye” of the automation system, a high-performance evaluation unit - the “brain” - is mounted on the crane and connected with the PLC. In this evaluation unit, data from the real-time sensors ensures a continuous update of the energy and position model for the load along its trajectory. At the same time all scan data is geo-referenced and pre-processed to allow further handling by standard PLC systems. Together this information allows a precise “landing” of the load at any given point.

    Industrial partners who would be interested in transferring this technology to the challenges they are facing are sought for commercial agreements with technical assistance. The technology can be applied wherever position detection and control for automation of indoor or outdoor equipment is required.
