  • Description:
    The company has extensive experience in the repair of concrete structures and has been developing a novel technology that gives a better, more durable finish to any concrete structure.
    Concrete is one of the most durable and most commonly used building materials. It has a lot of compressive strength, but much lower tensile strength. For this reason it is usually reinforced with materials that are strong in tension (often steel). The elasticity of concrete is relatively constant at low stress levels but starts decreasing at higher stress levels. Concrete has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion and shrinks as it matures and erodes causing cavities and pits in the surface of the concrete.
    Traditional methods of repairing concrete is by using a trowel or other implements to layer the concrete and then try to get a smooth surface. This SME has designed a finishing pad to address the accuracy of the finish.
    The product is a two sided pad that gives a smooth and accurate finish to any concrete structure. It is made from cross linked synthetic polymers. Ethylene Propylene (EPDM) and Polycholorprene rubbers. One side is a rough sponge surface , the other side is a matte rubber layer for polishing. It has two 12mm radiused finger grooves to allow the user to get a good grip on the pad.
    Once the mortar and water has been applied to the concrete, the rough sponge side is used to smooth down the surface. Once smoothed the matte side is used to buff the surface leaving a smooth and shiny finish. By using this kind of product eliminates the need to use grinding equipment after the repair, reducing dust and pollution. The product is applicable in the repair, production of concrete and all kinds of concrete products.
    The SME seeks manufacturing agreements and commercial agreements with technical assistance with companies interested in the implementation of this invention and more specifically targets companies producing concrete, concrete machinery / equipment for the building industry, special purpose or pre-stressed concrete facilities.
