Research & Development
  • Start date:
    25 juli 2016
  • End date:
    1 augustus 2017
  • Summary:
A Spanish consortium is looking for a partner in order to submit a proposal for the Eurostars programme. The main goal of this project is to develop a cheap, fast and user-friendly tumor DNA detection kit. A development and manufacturing company dedicated to the production of high quality plastic products for designing and packaging the kit is needed.
  • Description:
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and in particular lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women: about 1 out of 4 cancer deaths are from lung cancer.

The kit is based on the use of novel nanostructured membranes coated with DNA capture probes which need small amounts of tumor DNA in Peripheral Blood. It will allow detecting the advent and development of some types of cancer in a brief period of time without any type of surgery for doing the tumour biopsy, thus allowing the real-time monitorisation of the cancer evolution. As a result, cancer specialists will propose a specific oncology treatment for each patient and the specialists will know its effectiveness at real time and a low cost.

The ultimate objective is introducing the kit for doing a routine test for lung cancer patient in all hospitals around the world. We estimate that the product will be on the market in less than two years, and it will result in a substantial economic impact for the consortium and for public health, and more importantly, a significant impact in favour of social well-being.

For the Eurostars project consortium we are looking for a SME, large company or research organisation which is located in any Eurostars Participating States and Partner Countries.

The company must be a development and manufacturing company dedicated to the production of high quality plastic products for designing and packaging the kit.
The company must contribute to any of these issues:
    - To create a design easily manufacturable and faster time-to-market.
    - Designing, moulding and manufacturing of new products.
    - To manufacture products in clean rooms.
    - To support the consortium in selecting the appropriate types of packaging materials to ensure the safety of the product

The cut-off deadline is the 15th of September at 20:00 CET
